The San Jacinto Catholic School, headed by Rev. Fr. Genaro A. Herramia, parish priest and school director, is taking its initial plan for the biggest celebration this coming December 2008: The 60th Foundation Anniversary of the said school. In a 5 minute interview, Herramia told the Herald writers that as of the moment there is still no fixed agenda on how the celebration will proceed. “I have lot of pro – positions in my mind but I still need to have a series of collaborative talks with my constituents regarding this matter. We could probably begin to settle every tiny detail early next year.” He optimistically said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Demy I. Jasa, SJCS principal, assured the league of the student – writers that a Grand Alumni Association Homecoming will be held as one of the major highlights of the celebration. However, date and venue of the said affair is yet to be finalized. But since the Hyacinthians observe traditionally its foundation day every year on Dec. 8 (as patterned to tge date when SJCS got the approval and recognition of its incorporation in 1948) it is possible that the Grand Alumni would be set on the same date.

GRAND ALUMNI – FOR – A – CAUSE
The object of establishing on Alumni Association, aside from having a remarkable night of get – together, is to come up with a certain project. When asked about it, Fr. Herramia is hoping for a Multi – purpose Alumni Gym to rise on the SJCS ground. Possible ways of raising fund is through raffle tickets and voluntary donations from all the Alumni and concerned individuals. The proposed project has been visible manifestation of the current administration’s determinations to once again put San Jacinto Catholic School back into line light.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN?

The late Mrs. Remedios Y. Lopez, a former faculty member of the Mangaldan High School, was credited for the idea of establishing a private high school to then parish priest of San Jacinto, Rev. Fr. Amado Ballesteros. The reason behind Mrs. Lopez’s action is to provide the children of San Jacinto an easy access to secondary education because during that time, the locality has no high school and a few graduated in elementary schools have ti go to other towns like Manaoag and Mangaldan to pursue their secondary education.
The San Jacinto Academy was founded in the late 1947 and early 1948 by 16 incorporators – stockholders under the guidance of the Catholic Hierarchy in the Archdiocese of Lingayen – Dagupan led by then Archbishop Mariano Madriaga. The Academy started operating as the only high school of San Jacinto in the School year 1948 – 1949. and it was only after the ff. sch. Year, 1949 – 1950 that it opened classes up to forth year. In March 1950, the first high school commencement exercises were held.
Mrs. Remedios Lopez had made her name part of the school’s history as she was appointed as the pioneer principal of the school. However in 1957, the Dominican Sisters of the Order of the Preachers were assigned to assist in the Administration of the school. After fruitful years of service, the Religious Sisters left San Jacinto and the Parish Priest / School Director served as principal in a brief period of time until Dr. Demy I. Jasa was appointed as the new principal.

CURRENT DEVELOPMENT

How on its 60th year of operation, the San Jacinto Catholic School strengthens its internals mechanism towards integral and up – to – date Christian Education. It seeks to meet the growing demands of the competitive market and to be far ahead of its public school counterparts by producing good quality of instruction. Recently, the administration opens its door for strategically changes. Teachers are now asked to prepare weekly lesson plan instead of daily, yet a 50 – 50 lesson plans. In terms of faculty development, the SJCS employed highly – Qualified teachers of which some of them are continuously pursuing their Masteral degree in education. Also, teachers are encourage to attend seminars and educational trainings to make them more competent in teaching. Regular faculty meetings with the director are also held for the discussion of professionals and for the resolution of the common needs, problems and other matters concerning the students.
When it come to school facilities, Fr. Herramia had accomplished multi – projects for the last 5 months of this school year. Classrooms of both elementary and high school department have been reconstructed and repainted for a more conducive learning; comfort rooms for the pupils and students is nearly built; additional plastic chairs have been purchased through the initiative of the English – Filipino Club; and a relaxing waiting shed has been built for the comfort of those parents and guardians who usually await for their children or “alaga.”
Furthermore, the school strengthens its Catholic Instruction, following the admirable traditions and dogma of St. Hyacinth by giving all the learners a 30 – minute religion subject everyday. The administration also sees the need for students to explore the outside world. hence, an education field trip this December is expected. Also, on November 28 and 29, the San Jacinto Catholic School will be the home of PRISAA athletes of Zone 1, 2 and 3.
